1, 2, Freddy's coming for you...
A long time ago, back when the Nintendo entertainment system was very popular, there were two horror games on the market. One was Friday the 13th, the other was A Nightmare on Elm Street. Both games were considered common for someone to own, some people liked them, others didn't.
The games were rather simple, but the artistic style choices of the two main villians however, Jason, sporting a purple jumpsuit, a sea green mask, gloved and booted, and Freddy with yellow and orange pants, sweater and brown hat.
Although with these very odd color choices, these two villians were still crafted into action figures, first making an appearance by NECA and even came in an NES stylized box, the same look as the actual game box. NECA released these figures first in the Nintendo boxes and then they released Jason in Toys R' Us stores as an exclusive.
After the popular NECA company had these, Funko, the company known for Pop! vinyl and Wacky Wobblers chose the ReAction line as the way to re-energize these two figures and have now started making a NES style of Jason and Freddy as well! These two figures were first released by partnering with a store called Toy Tokyo a few days before this recently past New York Comic Con, which I was rather excited about. Comparing these two figures' pricing I'm happy report that Funko was making these available at a reasonable $15/each - especially when compared to the auction value of the NECA Freddy and Jason.
Although these pieces were not as large or detailed as the NECA pieces of yesteryear they are still very visually appealing. Knowing the popularity of NES games these are sure to be sought after by game collectors everywhere. After New York Comic Con Toy Tokyo announced that they will be posting NYCC exclusives throughout this week, so stay tuned.
