Weirdsday: My Spidey Senses Are Tingling!

by Cat "Venomiss" Hahn

Well hello again, welcome to another Weirdsday. This week let your spidey senses take control whilst we have a look at the 15" Electronic Talking Spider-man (Classic, circa 1994) by Toy Biz. Spider-man the fictional character of writer/editor Stan Lee and writer/artist Steve Ditko first appeared as an orphan child known as Peter Parker, being raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben in the comic book Amazing Fantasy #15 (cover dated Aug 1962), published by Marvel Comics.

Now days Spider-man is the most popular and commercially successful super-hero. Not only is he Marvel's “flagship” character and company mascot he has appeared in multiple media formats including, but not limited to, animation and live action tv programs. From there it was only natural that the merchandise would follow and take a firm grip on the world in his web.

So without further ado let’s get to this now rare, classic figure. All 15” of this piece are true to form with incredible attention paid to the detail in the making of this figure. An easy press of the button on his chest activates Spider-man’s four "smart lipped phrases" like “spider sense going berserk” -- giving you the sense of realism that such a dominant figure/character demands. With four points of articulation (head, arms and waist) moving the figure about is limited but not to the imagination.

The speaker holes and battery compartment are well disguised on Spiderman’s back within the details, you could even miss it at first glance. Certainly something I personally am a fan of.

The only let down is that the sound quality isn’t the best it could have been for such a figure. Spider-man’s packaging, whilst detailed, is in fact quite minimal to say the least. The open front design allows for dust to collect on the figure, but offers easy access to the figure when activating the talking feature, especially when he belongs to an in-box collector like myself. With the important details on the front, a minimal description of the figure and images of other products also available, this certainly leaves you wanting more.

Spidey has the last word!

You can expect this figure to set you back a pretty penny. You may happen to find one with prices starting from $139.99 plus shipping. This figure is a must-have for any hardcore fan or collector prepared to hand over that much hard earned cash for such a rare and amazing piece. So if you happen to stumble across one do what you can to get your hands on it! Until next week, happy collecting.....
