Hello again it’s Weirdsday and this week I’m doing something just a bit different from the usual review and in the spirit of the upcoming Christmas knocking on our doors. Now everyone has that one geeky/nerdy friend or family member that you have no clue what to buy them, so I’m going to give you a little helping hand with a few ideas that might help you out this festive season.
When it comes to true geeky/nerdy and gaming you simply cannot ignore Minecraft. It’s like the game was designed and created with a glasses-wearing single male geek in mind. Yeah you know the image I’m talking about. Well, if that family geek or nerdy friend already is playing the game then you just can’t go wrong with some Minecraft merch. With a range so vast, they have released everything from books, plush toys, figures, foam tools and weapon props, paper craft, clothing and jewelery - even, get this, cooking utensils! You are bound to find that perfect something. Maybe even a light-up red stone block or torch will excite the inner-geek in all of us. These are also something that won’t break the bank with prices ranging from $5.99 to $159.99 - guaranteed to find something to please any geek/nerd. Get yer Minecraft on.
Once you Pop! You can’t stop!: So with that let’s find something else that any of you would love to have. How about Funko POP! Vinyls? Consider the newly released Stitch, Sackboy, X-Men or Nightmare Before Christmas figures? With the numerous series available to choose from you’re going to find that figure that will make them weak at the knees. Television, Movies, Heros, Disney -- oh the possibilities are endless. Minis to 9” figures you're sure to be seeing the smiles of toynerds around the world with a POP! wrapped up under the tree. Depending where in the world you are prices can start as little as $8.99 for common figures and ranging into the hundreds, even thousands, for the rare ones. But be warned, once you Pop! you can’t stop, and soon enough, without your realising, they will be taking over your home. You can easily find deals on these through our affiliates.
Keeping with the figures, Vinylmation (by Disney) are also taking the collector world by storm. Just like Funko there are numerous series to pick from, but finding the one/s you want could be a challenge if you’re not familiar with the collectibles. Characters like Mickey Mouse and Cheshire Cat to the series' Disney Parks and Popcorn - you will be in awe of what you can find. With so many variants and a selection of sizes to choose from there is bound to be one that gets the “geekasm” happening. Prices vary in dramatic proportions depending on what you're after, but expect to hand over anywhere from $12.95 to $310 and upwards. Something for everyone.
So are you still scratching your head, flicking through the multiple online catalogues and junk mail trying to find that perfect geeky gift? Well if all else fails and a gift card just don’t cut it for you, then why not consider a monthly subscription mystery box, always sure to please the most skeptical of collectors. Take a look at our affiliates Nerd Block (Val Kilmer or Warwick Davis autograph this month) and Lootcrate (biggest box ever this month + Exclusive Pop!) for instance, or look through our annual survey of boxes available. You may also want to try out the January "BYO Animation Cache" or "Disney Collector's Cache" from the newest box in town - collectibleGeek (tell 'em we sent ya)!
