Sunday Bloody Funday: Jason Has An 8-Bit Glow

by James K-Brak Today’s review takes us to Camp Crystal Lake. Yup, I’m talking about America’s favorite hockey mask wearing slasher, Jason Voorhees. I’m not just talking about the regular old Jason from the movies, but actually about the hardest Nintendo villain ever faced, 8-Bit Jason. This figure is brought to us from the good folks over at NECA in all his 8” retro greatness. I’ll be reviewing the NECA 8-Bit Jason which happens to be a Toys R' Us Exclusive.

The figure is based on how Jason appeared in with his funky 80’s Nintendo video game look. So instead of the figure looking like he did in any of the movies he comes to us in his bright purples and teals. The figure is packaged in the famous NECA "resealable" clamshell - which it is not. The card on this packaging is very well done and is a great recreation of how the game looked while playing it on Nintendo. The figure displays well in the package and is clearly visible in the package from the front.

Let’s take a closer look at the main reason we’re here, the figure. The figure itself is one of NECA’s 8” retro figures so it has the 9 points of articulation with nice tight joints. What makes him different from the regular Jason release in this line is his wild color scheme. His shirt and pants are purple along with his head and body. His mask and shoes come in a sort of teal color.

The nice thing about his mask is that it also has a glow-in-the-dark feature which really works well and adds a little something cool to this figure. His clothes fit well and aren’t sized wrong for his 8” frame. The 8-Bit Jason comes with the same accessories that the regular Jason came with except they are in a color scheme to match the figure. The three accessories that the figure comes with are a machete, a harpoon gun, and an axe. He also has one hand sculpted in an open position and one in a closed position. These hands work perfectly for holding his three accessories. Each one fits perfectly in his closed hand and the figure can balance fine with any of them in his hand.

Overall I think this figure is awesome and an excellent addition to NECA's horror figure line up. It mixes the fun of the Nintendo Friday the 13th game with NECA’s 8” Jason figure perfectly. This is one figure that if you’re a fan of the 80’s and like Friday the 13th you are going to want to pick it up. This figure was sold exclusively at Toys R’ Us from September 2014 to October 2014. If you would like more information on any of the figures in this retro 8” line then head on over to NECA.
