Today we are going to answer the age old question, “who ya gonna call?” The obvious answer is The Ghostbusters! I'm going to take a closer look at the Mattycollector Ghostbusters Winston 12inch figure and how it stacks up.
Mattycollector.com is a website that offers Mattel products that don’t have a line for sale in mainstream stores and online vendors. It is sold exclusively from their website and on a few online sites with a mark up on price. Some of the lines that are offered are Ghostbusters, Masters of the Universe, and DC figures. The Winston figure is offered in their Ghostbusters line of 1/6 scale figures. They also offer the three other Ghostbusters in this 12 inch line.
The packaging the figure arrives in is a plain white mailer. Inside the mailer is a the 12inch figure in a standard clear plastic box so you can see the figure clearly along with his accessories in a tray that resembles a locker. It is very simple, but well done packaging. The figure can be removed from the packaging so it can be displayed either in-box or loose on a shelf.
The figure is a standard 12 inch figure with 14 points of articulation so he can be posed in numerous positions. The headsculpt on the figure is very well done and looks like the actor that portrayed winston in the movie. Winston comes dressed in his ghostbusters grey jumpsuit. The clothing fits the figure well and matches the costume seen on screen pretty well. The accessories that you get with the figure is where he really shines. You get a ghost trap along with some extra hands in different positions. The one accessory that really puts this figure over the top is his proton pack. It is very detailed and also has working led lights so that you can turn it on to really bust some ghosts. The pack has every little detail a full size pack would have and is replicated very well to this scale. Its one of the things that really moves this figure from a toy to a collectable. Winston also comes with a blueprint and a newspaper to scale.
The Neutrino Wand is offered in their Ghostbusters line of 1:1 prop replicas. They also offer a PKE meter to track ghosts, a ghost trap, and a pair of goggles. All of them are pretty close to copying what is seen on screen. One of the nice features about all three of them is that they are able to interact with each other some way to create different play features.
The packaging the Neutrino Wand arrives in is a plain white mailer and inside the mailer. Inside the mailer is a brown shoe box type crate that holds the wand. It is very simple but well done packaging. The brown box is made to look like a wooden crate and because there is no tape or seals used on it the wand can be placed back in it when not in use busting ghosts.
The wand, or thrower as it is called, is made of sturdy plastic with a metal bracket to attach it to a pack. Mattycollector unfortunately has not made the pack for it yet and doesn’t look like they will in the near future. It has different switches and buttons on it just like in the movie. The wand also has lights and sound, which are powered up by the switches just like in the movie. It has a power up and down sound, and also a firing sound. The sounds are nice and loud and crisp and the speaker is located inside the wand. The wand also has lights on it for discharge and a bar graph that fluctuates when the fire button is pressed. The wand also had a lever that extends the barrel automatically just like in the movie. The wand is a very faithful representation of what is seen on screen all the way down to the correct color hoses on it and a replica clippard valve, which is on the original. One of the nice features about the wand too is that if you have two wands near each other when fired you can “cross the streams” like in the movie by pointing the barrels together.
This figure itself is a well done 12 inch figure with many accessories to go with him in my opinion. If you would like to get more information on this figure or some of their 1:1prop replicas head on over to Mattycollector.com and they will take care of you. The figure retails on the site for $40 but is sold out. Winston and the other 12inch Ghostbusters can still be found for sale on auction sites on the internet. Then the question of “who ya gonna call?” can be answered rather easily once you pick up one of these Ghostbusters Winston figures and a Neutrino Wand. It’s YOU!
