Pick Your Poison: A Batty Season!

by Antwan Thompson

If you are a 90s baby, then have no fear because I have found the perfect gifts for you to geek out. This year, to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Batman, DC Collectibles went back to the animated well for a new series of figures in honor of classic Bruce Timm designs.

There will be high quality and highly anticipated new action figures based on the original Batman: The Animated Series which debuted in 1992 and ran through 1995-1997, until The New Batman Adventures. Each of them will be true 1/12th, six-inch scale. Each figure comes with multiple accessories and is packaged in a full-color blister card.

First Wave: Batman, Catwoman, Mr. Freeze and Two-Face

Second Wave: The Joker, Man-Bat, Robin and Poison Ivy: March 2015

Third Wave: Harley Quinn, Robin, Killer Croc and The Creeper: released May 2015

Fourth Wave: Batman, Batgirl, Mr. Penguin and The Riddler: released July 2015

The first wave collection are available right now (see below) so hurry up and get it before it’s sold out. As far as the figures are concerned onThe New Batman Adventures, 3 out of 4 figures (Batman, Two-Face and Mr. Freeze) are based on the look from the show, including the color palette and the costumes will be the same. Catwoman is the only character to come from Batman: The Animated Series. The rest of the collectibles would be available tiered into 2015: and you can pre-order some of them early.

There were few minor issues with the first wave figures, for example: Batman has a grappling gun that did not fit into his hands. The Two-Face figure has somewhat sloppy paint application in the place where the black and white meet they bleed over to the wrong side - and the same thing happened to Catwoman. She has sloppy paint application in her belt where it seems probably rushed. Her hip joints were stiff to the point of uselessness as well, and so was Mr. Freeze’s. In spite of the wealth of flaws these figures have strong visual appeal, which is undeniable. Whether it’s the flashback to a moment in your childhood, or just the brilliance of Bruce Timm’s designs - we should all be forever thankful.

Who wouldn’t forget “Heart of Ice” with Mr. Freeze, what a romantic tragedy that was? This series is perfect because it is aimed directly at those who spent their afternoons after school patiently waiting to see the latest episode, and those who are now old enough with disposable income. For those who never watched the show before, don’t be discouraged. You can still grab hold of new memories in the making.
