A lot of people who collect Pop! figures may likely also end up collecting the Funko Mystery Minis, which are small 1 inch miniature figures found in "blind box" assortments at numerous retailers worldwide.
A few weeks ago Brian Mariotti, the president of Funko, announced many new mini lines such as an Anime blind box, DC series 2 (announced previously), Frozen, Garbage Pail Kids, Nightmare Before Christmas series2, Horror series 2, Sci-Fi series 2, a Dreamworks Mystery Tin Set and a My Little Pony series 3.
Seeing Funko go from regular TV shows and movies into making Pops and Minis of everyone's favorite Anime characters will be adding new collectors to Funko's already vast fans of collectible vinyl figures.
One of the biggest mini series for Funko was the Horror line, just about every fan has at least one horror mini that I know of. It will be rather interesting to see what characters they add to it. The Dreamworks Tin Mystery Set seems interesting as well, with all the selection of Dreamworks characters it is sure to be an amazing set for any collector to own.
The first series of Sci-Fi minis was just the beginning. Almost everyone was on the hunt to complete there set with the Mars Attacks alien which was a 1/72, knowing all the neat sci-fi movies, characters and even special effects, there will be endless possibilities with this set. The set for Nightmare Before Christmas has been a very sought-after one, everyone wants that rare Santa Jack or Zero which are both 1/144. Sometimes they go as high as 80+ dollars in auctions, so hopefully we see a more balanced ratio with the second series.
Frozen seems to have been taken everything over: movie-wise, song-wise, doll-wise and even Pop-wise, with their second series coming out (which can be preordered now) why not make a mini vinyl set? So many people that are into Disney pops just must have the Frozen ones, I am interested in seeing what they will make.
As stated in the previous article we already mentioned the Anime blind boxes, so in this one, I give you Anime Pop!s as Funko has got the license for the following: Tokyo Ghoul, Fairy Tail, Soul Eater, Naruto, Death Note and even Bleach, however they still have not secured the rights for Sailor Moon, Gigantor and Voltron.
Mr. Mariotti still has one more major announcement to make regarding "A new direction, a new set of lines, a new way to collect, new licenses, new looks, new talent....details soon" - so it will be rather interesting to hear what he says regarding this. I, for one, am very excited.
