Dweey is the brainchild of artist Luk Chee Chew. We took a few moments to talk with him before we sat down with the delightful, and functional collectible now looking to branch outside its homeland.
Q: Where did the concept and inspiration for Dweey come from?
A: Inspiration came from the short neck giraffe. I had a serious car accodent during 2005 and had to stay at home for a year on medication. So i created Dweey during that year.
Q: What has the response been so far?
A: We were partnering with Phisontech from Taiwan who are the creator of the SOC chip for flash drive in 2013. We want to combine a toy with digital elements to create a combination of design and functionality.
Q: Why a USB? Seems fun, and practical too. Are there other precedents for this application?
A: We sold out most of the toy in Malaysia and some other countries in the Asia Pacific regions. We are looking forward to introducing US-based retailers who are interested to carry our product.
Q: Are there other characters or applications for the near future you can tell us about?
A: No new character yet. We will focus in the Malaysia Designer Toy society and we are going to build a toy fullfillment center in Malaysia to help all toy sellers handle their backend support in ecommerce.
