Hunters + Collectors: Bargain Hunting

Sales, bargains, negotiations, clearance, deals, anyway to get a better price through a hunt makes the collecting world a better place for us all! Whether at flea markets, yard sales, retail stores, online, or even making deals with friends, everyone loves a discount on their favorite figures. But don’t you hate when some places (like retail stores) have just so much inventory that does not sell, and they leave it at full price? And better yet, they won’t restock with new items until the current items sell . . . yet they are also losing money by leaving items sitting on shelves and pegs for up to and over a year. Yes, every one of my local Toys R Us, Walmart, and Target locations have had the same Star Wars Black Series 6” Leias, Obi Wans, Hans, and Greedos sitting on pegs for a year now, and with the somewhat recent release of the Biker Scout, Jabba, and Cantina Showdown, it looks like another year of full shelves.

Most recently, Hasbro Toy Shop had a ridiculously awesome sale on their eBay page; 6” Black Series Stormtroopers and Boba Fetts for $10! - and - FREE SHIPPING!

It has to be the greatest sale in retail history, considering the demand and popularity of these figures. Looking at the sales too, thousands of figures sold in a matter of hours. Also taking a look at the buyers, there were plenty of single purchases, but also quite a few multiples, and a whole lot of people buying ten figures for army building (it seems ten was the limit as there were no purchase amounts more than ten figures).

Unfortunately for my location, there is no K-Mart near me where most of the clearances take place, and my Disney Store (who also have made the smart moves to put Black Series figures on clearance) have never even been more stock-heavy with 6” Black Series figures. Nonetheless, a sale is a sale. Every penny saved now is another penny to use on a future item whether big or small, vintage or modern. Happy collecting, good hunting everyone!
