Monday Mini Madness: Roger Roger

Greetings mini figure fans! This week I re-visit Star Wars Command figures with a set I picked up recently, Droid Destruction. Previously I gave the Endor Attack set a positive review, noting a couple of flaws that somewhat hindered the set. The exclusive eye catching figure of this set is the big tinny himself, General Grievous. He is the reason I had to have this set, though all of the droids are great army builders so given the opportunity I would grab a couple more of this set.

The description on the package reads: “Take charge and command your battle! Supreme Commander General Grievous is ready to lead his Battle Droids and Super Battle Droids into combat against the Republic. Highly skilled in Lightsaber combat, General Grevious has one goal: destroy the Jedi.”

THE MEAT

This set includes an exclusive General Grievous, six Battle Droids (3 maroon and 3 tan), and 2 Super Battle Droids. The total of nine figures cost me approximately $8.00, so just under a buck apiece. The fearsome General Grievous does not disappoint! The sculpt is great, with armor plates and textures standing out. The pose is also good, two arms raised and two lowered, all holding lightsabers that provide the splash of color only the exclusive figures have.

The Battle Droids are divided into two colors, with each color having a different sculpt. The classic tan Battle Droid is standing in a more “at ease” stance, cradling a blaster in the crook of an elbow. The maroon Battle Droid is more at the ready, standing on the balls of its feet and holding the blaster lowered but ready. Plenty of small detail lines prevent the figures from being to mundane.

The Super Battle Droids are grey and posed as they are often seen in The Clone Wars, one arm extended to fire the blaster on their wrists. The rear foot is slightly raised, as if the figures are marching forward.

THE POTATOES

Unlike Endor Attack I don’t think these figures require any modification for improvement. If you are feeling adventurous you could paint up General Grievous to match his character from the movie/tv series. I think the only thing that can be done with the droids is to maybe give them a thin black wash to create shadows.

THE DESSERT

I think this set ranks higher than Endor Attack because it has fewer flaws. There was less room for error with these characters because they are droids which generally appear as one solid color anyway. If you are looking for something Command oriented look over here for various fun new things.
