OMG: The 'g' stands for Globular! This thing reminded me of some cartoon come to life...but not any old cartoon, something from Spike and Mike's Festival of Animation. Just a hint of naughty, The Boob Ball from NY's LA-transplant Buff Monster (Sculpted by October Toys and Produced by 3D Retro) came out three years ago - though I am brand-new to it. It's inventive silver metallic shape stands up on its pink 'nipples' in the round, have a look....
Handheld: The piece fits nicely in the palm, at first having the effect of one of those stress ball thing, but certainly unlike any you've seen before. It's made of vinyl and it's not squishy. The sculpt is a wacky cross between, let's say, a bunch of grapes and some sorta cosmic birthday cake. It's shiny and bright, with a bit of a poker face that looks either worried or embarassed. I'm sure it's someone's spirit animal, somewhere.
The bottom has the artist's signature (and registered) logo which I think would have been more effective if it were a bit smaller and/or in a less obvious spot - the figure itself lends to a non-obvious dialectic.
RATING
Sculpt: 8/10 (love the bulbousness, wish it were one whole piece/unit)
Paint: 7.5/10 (the silver looks great, the pink pops but the white is wonky)
Design/Packaging: 8/10 (the figure concept is much more awesome than the box it comes in, too simple a presentation for such a cool shock)
All in all, this limited edition (150) 4" figure which originally surfaced in 2012 is one of those irresistable surprises that any collector would love to adorn their shelves with. The eyes and nose remind me slightly of Betty Boop for some odd reason, and the design of the pupils is clawlike and animated nicely. It's like a big ole piece of dandy vinyl candy. When it was announced, it arrived in five colorways (including a GITD version) though they are somewhat scarce these days (save for the secondary market), all with something quite different and unique about them (see them here). You "might" be able to nab one, or something similar from Suburban Vinyl here.
