Monday Mini Madness: SK8 OR DIE

Hello again mini figure fans! This week I am talking about some figures that I have been excited about for quite a while, I saw them on Toy Break a couple of months ago but only recently ordered them… AJ’s Toy Boarders! Straight off the “About” section of the Toy Boarders web site is a nice little background about Toy Boarders “The Original AJ’s Toy Boarders is a simple toy that lets kids use their imagination. Toy Soldiers have been around for years – why promote war when we can let kids have positive toys that promote action sports instead of violence – they get enough violence with todays video games."

Our roots are skate, surf, snow & bike. So when we design each rider we use real moves that would be used by todays riders. Each Artwork Figure is hand molded with attention to detail and style. Any kid can enjoy these riders. They can make a skatepark out of anything around the house, take them wherever they go & use their imagination for hours of enjoyment. Stay tuned for more upcoming series. We hope that you enjoy AJ’s Toy Boarders. It’s hard not to be on board with such a positive message, but the figures are pretty great as well.

THE MEAT

For now I will only be discussing series 1 and 2 of the Skate figures leaving Snow and Surf for another time.

Each pack comes with 24 total figures, three each of the eight different trick poses. These figures really throw it back to the classic green army men, being similar in color and type of plastic. The quality is slightly higher than any green army men I have seen, they have distinct facial features and clothing lines. Much like the classic green army men they have mold lines, which in my opinion is not a bad thing. It gives them a retro feel.

Series 1 has the following poses: pushing, nose grab, smith, cruising 1, cruising 2, manual, tail grab, and Ollie. Series 2 includes: bomber, front lipslide, girl cruising, filmer, backside boardslide, switch, 50/50, and tailgrab.

I really like the header cards, they’re nothing to fancy but they are nice. On the back side they name each of the poses for those that aren’t familiar.

THE POTATOES

Customization is not needed on these figures, where the fun comes in is taking pictures/video of them. There are some great stop motion videos on the Toy Boarders web site and their Instagram page is pretty active. A bit of putty will go a long way in getting the figures to stick where you want them.

A highlight of these figures is that they can be posed just about anywhere. Any surface they can balance on is fair game for pictures.

THE DESSERT

I’m a big fan of these figures, my favorite is probably the filmer, with the bomber running a close second. The price point is great at $6.00 per pack of 24. I am hoping that they will be releasing a BMX series eventually, based solely on their description saying “Our roots are skate, surf, snow and bike.”

Mark from Mystical Warriors of the Ring said to keep an eye on The Keshi Drop early this week for a world wide MWOTR first look. I can’t wait to find out what it is!
