I'm a big fan of the show Grimm, filmed in my former hometown, Portland, I was privileged to see the premiere with nearly the entire cast a few years back. It recalled my boyhood interest in the alchemy, the mystery and ogre-boogery of the original books. But this story is unlike either of those. And though I am unfamiliar with the femme-fatale version by Zenescope Comics which is at the center of these new Minimates from Diamond Select Toys let's dive in! After all they are celebrating their 100th issue - so.....
The Grimm Fairy Tale Minimates are a cool blister four-pack including: Nissa, Belinda, Sela and Red Riding Hood. They are a grown-up naughty girl foursome. Of all formats for Minimates this quad style is by far my favorite, I love the compactness of these and it looks really nice in the box, though, heck with that, we definitely wanna pop these babes out for some fresh air.
As the inner packing displays they come with one clear stand - presumably for the Wonder Woman-looking Sela to take to the sky, there is also one blonde hairpiece to be switched out with one of the other non-blonde bombshells here. There are three swords and an axe as well as the good book, Grimm's Tales as it were - which, by the way, harken back to the turn of the 19th Century.
These lil' ladies are so unique and couldn't be more different by figure. From left: Nissa is the milky green (good) fairy with wings; the purple loin-sashed Belinda is a wicked dark lady who possesses the powers of the Dark Horde; then there's the bespacled Sela is armed (once you give her a weapon of choice) and ready to protect planet Earth; and lastly a more familiar character in a more adult form, Red Riding Hood - who has certainly come out of the woods for now, in her bustiere and red miniskirt, she's likely left gradma's nest for good. Have a closer look....
Like all other Minimates, these are mostly articulated in the same places, save for where costumery gets in the way...but even on an angled surface we were able to get these gals to pose and flex for our cameras. They are painted and decaled to very fine detail as you know they are only a few inches tall. I love the eyes on all four, very theatrical and reminicent of pop art. Let's put these figures to the test....
Whether leaping or dualing, or simply hanging out chatting, there are endless possibilities of how you can set the stage. Of course it would make sense to considering blending these with other recent releases (read about 'em here). Not only can you set the scene - you can remove parts and pieces to mix and match different styles...maybe you want a pizza from the TMNTs for Nissa or give Marisiel's torch (Pathfinder) to Belinda, hmmmm. Of course they all have standard clear peg stands as well - so you can stabilize them nicely.
A teaser for next time :)
