Westeros Weekly VI: Decisions, Decisions

Section 1 - The Realm Reviewed

by Lucifer Lang

S5E5: Episode 5 of this season was filled with tough decisions that will bring serious results. Things are going to get as hectic as possible before winter arrives, what a way to prepare.

It appears Daeny is following her families footsteps and morphing into the Mad Queen. With the death of Ser Barristan and the general situation in the streets of Meereen, is her version of "burn them ... burn them all" coming sooner than we think?

Marrying into a powerful family in Meereen is certainly a bold move too, how will Daario's relationship with her change now? It seems like her counsel is growing smaller episode by episode. The line between reasonable actions and irrational ones has become quite blurry.

Jon took Maester Aemon's advice to heart by putting all his chips on the poker table and is headed for Hardhome, joining forces between Crows and Wildlings will not be taken easily from either side.

Many believe we will also finally get some insight as to what happened to Benjen and many also think the Brothers of the Watch will face the horde of death before they reach Hardhome. None the less, I think there's far too much history and bad blood between all of them for this to end well for anyone. Is the army of the dead enough for all of them to swallow their pride?

The new story plot with Sansa actually seems to be going somewhere interesting. Ramsey was knocked down a peg and Brienne might have a chance to make good on her oath. "The North Remembers"? ... I'm hoping by the end it turns into "the North will NEVER forget"!

I want to see House Bolton shamed and defeated beyond all recognition. You say "Our blades are sharp"? GOOD, why don't you fall on it for us then! In time, hopefully we should be able to go back to saying Winterfell instead of Winterhell! Just like her with the feather by Lyanna's tomb last week, the scene of Sansa at the Old Tower was very symbolic.

The Smoking Sea wasn't quite what I expected from my understanding of the maps of Essos, visually it appeared more like a misty bayou or river delta. I'll tell you what though, greyscale sure does move quickly! How much time do you think passed between Tyrion falling overboard and Jorah reviving him up on the shore? ... I would say an hour at the most. Is Tyrion at risk of contracting the wretched disease or is it already too late? Looking back, I would've took my chances with the Pirates.

When people use the phrase "too close for comfort" these examples are exactly what they mean. Daunting choices certainly seemed to be a general theme in this episode, how many ends will justify their means?

Section 2 - Collecting Westeros

from the Maester's Scrolls - Father and Son

The Stark Family is one of the oldest in Westeros with stories and history going back all the way to the First Men. Kings, Lord Commanders, Knights and Wardens of the North have filled their scrolls with lore and legend for thousands of years. With countless oaths of fealty through out time from Northern houses and allies, Stark will always be the most powerful name from Greywater Watch to the Wall.

Ned Stark (portrayed by Sean Bean) was the former Warden of the North and Hand of the King plus leader of the House Legacy. He was revered and respected as a very noble and honest man with a loyal heart. Ned was maliciously attacked on various levels by the Lannisters and company, then swindled into claiming treason for uncovering the conspiracy of Cersei's children.

The Ned Stark figure (Funko) that is modeled after this story plot is equipped with 2 swords and his Hand of the King broach. The smaller sword is his normal defensive weapon that fits into the sheath attached to the figures belt. The second sword the the iconic Greatsword used in season 1 episode 1. This figure is numbered 6 of 12 series 1, he was not around long enough to warrant any type of alternate configurations of his character.

Ned's oldest son Robb (portrayed by Richard Madden) was overseeing Winterfell in his stead when everything happened in the Red Keep. He then rallied all this Fathers bannermen and began engaging opposing forces. Robb's military campaign was overall successful except for double crossing Walder Frey, which led to his murder and family's demise at The Twins.

The Robb Stark figure is cloned from his trek south towards Kings Landing. He comes with his 1 Sword compatible with the figures belted sheath and includes his fur crested cape. The only thing missing is his Direwolf Grey Wind. This figure is numbered 11 of 12 series 2, there are not any variants or exclusives that I'm aware of for this character as well.

I've read a few post and threads in the past claiming Legacy Collection figures break easy, have botched articulation and are faulty in construction. I have never personally encountered this problem with any Funko product but I heard they will replace the broken toy if you contact them. Hopefully I will never have to do so.

As far as Funko is concerned, I do hope they fixed whatever issues they did have if any. There are a ton of Pop! figures as well as Mystery Mini figures for Game of Thrones but I enjoy the Legacy Collection in particular. Will they release more in the near future? Unfortunately I'm unable to answer that but I hope the answer is yes. I've collected every one so far but it's just not enough.
