Size Matters: Intro Package

Hello all! My name is Fransisco Marrujo and I’m a toy aficionado.

At the age of 5 I was introduced to Star Wars. It was at The Texas Station casino with my father in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was the one of the first screenings for Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. I’ll never forget how excited I was after watching it. It changed me and shaped me into the person I am today. Today, I am a Star Wars obsessed 20 year old who has picked up a 1/6th scale figure and prop addiction. It is my goal within this column to gain a better knowledge of the figures I collect and familiarize myself with the artists responsible for these amazing figures as well as placing a wide spread coverage of not just Sideshow Collectibles and Hot Toys but independent artists and companies. I will strive my hardest to not only increase the quality of my articles and eventually bring more in depth video reviews.

Well without further ado, I give you my review on one of my first and favorite figures I own, The Sideshow Collectibles Exclusive Prototype Boba Fett!

So first things first, this figure is beautiful! Packaged well in a matching all white box that catches the eye at first glimpse with a very sleek and signature “T visor” that makes up the mysterious face of Boba Fett. On the bottom left corner of the box is a silver exclusive Sideshow Collectibles sticker. On the back of the box is a photo of the figure posed and ready for action. As soon as I saw this it made me want to open the figure and display it in a similar manor. The box opens with a magnetic clasp in the front to reveal a display window that showcases the figure in its full glory and a short description of the figure. It explains that the armor and paint scheme this Boba Fett has is the Joe Johnston design rather than the Ralph McQuarrie concept that some people have confused this with.

Opening the figure was quite easy. I usually open figures from the very bottom of the box so I don’t damage the top of the box at all. After pulling the figure out, I inspect all the pieces and the paint to make sure I didn’t get anything broken or unpainted. Sideshow is usually really awesome with not having any problems with their figures.

The attention to detail on this figure is amazing. Some of the pieces are different sculpts than the first 1/6th scale Sideshow Boba Fett which released in 2012. The approximate height on this figure is 12 inches and it weighs about 2 or 3 pounds. The first thing I noticed was that the chest armor pieces come off and are attached with Velcro. The figure came with a total of 16 accessories including blasters, hands, and an exclusive replica “Beach Towel” cape that was used in the original test shots for the prototype armor.

All in all I have to say that this figure is an amazing piece and I’m happy to have this piece in my collection. It is definitely a must have for Boba Fett collectors. It’s an iconic piece of Star Wars history being that this design would eventually evolve into the Empire Strikes Back Boba Fett we all were introduced to and fell in love with.

I rate this piece 5/5 for overall quality, aesthetic, and how well it displays.

Artists of this piece include: Anthony Mestas (Paint), Bernardo Esquivel (Paint), and Tim Niver (Sculpt). I obtained this piece through Sideshowtoy.com. It is however sold out through the website.
