Heroine: DC Bombshells

What can I say about DC Bombshells? Well, first thing is that it both empowers and somewhat belittles women as role models. Empowering because it shows that it isn't just men who can have superpowers like super-strength or the ability to fly. It shows readers that women have an equal right to be superheroes or rolemodels but it does, to some extent, belittle this by using the same stereotypical view of a "female superhero" (namely, pin up). As far as I can see, they all have huge busts and tiny waists. One, however, does have more realistic sized hips to go with her huge breasts (which do sometimes get in the way of certain things!) but that seems to be all in the way of realistic sized and shaped women.

That said, the new statues do look great, particularly Cheetah, you can't go wrong with red hair and a bit of leopard print.

The addition of more female superheroes to the online DC game should go a long way to equalizing genders in the superhero realm (the fact that we still need something like this in this day and age in any field is rather astounding).

Rolemodeling, superhero or otherwise, should not just be left to the men. Women are strong, beautiful and fully capable of being the greatest of leaders rivaling that of Batman, Da Vinci, Einstein and even JFK. Bombshells prove that women can be as strong as (if not more than) the male superheroes and this can easily be applied to real life. A female rolemodel does not have to be a pin up, big-busted, 22" waisted superhero like the Bombshells because even the smallest of people can prove to be one of the strongest around. In the 1950s, perhaps women did look more like the retro "pin up" cartoons but now, this image is completely inappropriate for the modern era. Women no longer wear tight corsets all day, every day to keep their waist at a prim 22"!

I couldn't possibly imagine someone walking around todays streets and bars with a waist that size; it is hugely belittling to the women of today and can dream up misplaced views of what strong women and strong female rolemodels are "supposed" to look like.

The retro theme fits the pin up style characters well and some covers are even quite attractive (especially to someone like myself who is bi) but try picturing a real woman who looks like that...not as attractive off the page, is it?

Some are available, some are forthcoming in 2016....see more here.
