Loch Ness Monster from Awesome Toys

Awesome Toys, why yes! This company out of Hong Kong is making some really cool retro figures ala classic b-films and ephemera. How excited were we to discover this lil' package on the doorstep...along with the dawn of Texas Summer! Awesome Toys are the makers of soft vinyl figures including Fake Baron and other weird and oogly figures.....you can peruse their colorful creations on Instagram.

Today we opened their too cute to be even slightly scary Loch Ness Monster! This green guy initially reminded me of the sleestacks from my childhood favorite: Land of the Lost - without limbs. That said - he's got bright yellow bloodshot eyes and is the scale of a small rubber ducky.

SOFUBI: Made from a soft vinyl the figure fits snugly in your hand and has a nice tactile quality given its scales from the depths of the sea. The facial expression is priceless - maybe he's lost, forlorn, or maybe hypnotized? He stands in a somewhat coiled shape - similar to that of a snake - and comes simply packaged as below.

I love the color contrast between the figure and eyes - it's comical and cartoon-like and will be a huge hit with all lovers of Universal Monsters and such. We took Loch Ness on a bit of an adventure to see where we'd end up....

Oddly, the figure looked great in the garden and if I didn't live in such an urban setting I might keep him out there to guard us from slugs and other creepy bugs...alas, he'll make a friendly addition to my ever-growing shelf of amazing vinyl collectibles - and you should definitely get one for yourself.

The figure is a bootleg of sorts, partly based on the original Kenner "Stretch Serpent" that was released back in the 1970's. He's lightweight at only 1.6 ounces with packaging and perfectly sized to morph sweetly among your collection.

As you can see - Awesome Toys has made every effort to obtain a near-perfect sculpt. We only now will crave additional figures from this company as this is an outstanding first look into a very creative and thoughtful toymaker with a sense of humor! Check out Awesome Toys on Facebook too.
