A Real Monster: Godzilla 8-Bit Stomps All In Its Path

NECA is continuing their exciting 8-Bit "Video Game Appearance" figure line with Godzilla. This figure stands 6" tall and a foot long with its pop-joint tail extension. Everything about this figure roars as if it jumped straight from the colorfully wonky NES PC game from circa '88! This is what he looked like back then:

The fine detail in this figure is worth mention. For starters, the expert paint application truly emanates straight from the pixelated blue tones, here replicated nicely with various cool hues here and there all over the figure, with beaming red eyes in wonderful contrast. This Godzilla will stand strong aside so many others - and excels in this department in particular, as it will aside other figures in the line (Batman, Predator, Terminator, even Rocky). The painters really have paid homage to the classic video game. Let's take a look at the creative packaging here:

NECA has done TOHO Co proud with the classic "Monster of Monsters" slogan. Collectors will appreciate the graphics where spaceships are looking in the background during an electrical storm no less! This window box is delightful no matter how you slice it, and we appreciate the minimal nod to the video game inside too. I never played the game itself - but here's a nod to explosions and hi-tension wires en masse! The package has a worn-look (sorta like when you buy extreme acid washed jeans, but I digress...). It's a cool graphic effect, and in-box collectors can truly appreciate this stroke as we are continuously searching for the finest quality in boxes that are unmarred by finger prints and box wear - this adds a literal tongue-in-cheek to all things retro! The colors have a bright yet slightly faded quality - it's just a perfect overall design. Now on to the figure....

He's adorably ferocious. And he's got more articulation than Nadia Comăneci on the uneven bars! Yes ma'am, this lil' guy can twist and turn at nearly every point you wished for. His mouth opens and closes and stays in place, his feet move 360, his hands andlegs move nicely and are sturdy. His rotund body is held up by his ample feet/claws as well as his tail which is lovely in that it has multiple joints for posing - and the end of his tail bends and twists too! He has a joint in his mid-torso that allows for fearless looks sideways - in all there are about 30 points of articulation to work with - he surpasses the test we gave him for sure. Let's take a broader look:
