Heroine: Count Duckula Flashback

Seeing as it's Retro Week here at Go Figure News, I decided to write about something I loved as a child (and still love to this day): Count Duckula (circa 1988-93). Not everyone will remember the ketchup-loving, vegetarian, travelling vampire duck but those who do tend to remember him fondly...as well as Nanny, Igor and Dr. Von Goosewing.

I loved this show so much, I created a necklace based on it!

David Jason really brought Count Duckula alive with the slightly-arrogant, all-knowing tone only he can truly muster. Although the show was quite popular and had some merchandise, figure-wise, there wasn't as much as I would have liked. They released a few games on various platforms, a board game and a couple of soft toys (one of which does talk!).

The Count Duckula TV show followed the adventures of a vegetarian vampire duck, his nanny, his butler servant Igor and Dr. Von Goosewink (all of whom are different species of birds). His mansion, which sits atop a high hill in Transylvania, can travel with the use of a cuckoo clock.

With each ressurection, Count Duckula has virtually no memory who he was before which allows each "father" to develop their own personality. This time, however, when Igor was ressurecting him, he used Ketchup instead of blood and therefore created the world's first (and probably only) vegetarian vampire duck!
