Yvonne Craig: In Remembrance

We pay tribute to one of the best female heroines: Yvonne Craig, who died on the 17th of August from breast cancer at the age of 78.

Ms. Craig's most memorable performance was as Batgirl/Barbara Gordon on the Batman TV series in the 60s. She also starred in films like Mars Needs Women, It Happened At The World's Fair, Kissin' Cousins and The Young Land.

As Batgirl, she was one of the earliest female heroines on TV and was hugely popular. She was a leading figure in the heroine world and accelerated the female superhero role model by decades. The 1966 Batgirl figure of Yvonne in her iconic purple batgirl outfit was an exclusive at SDCC this year. One of her wishes was that "no one waste a moment of their time in mourning for her loss in sadness but instead celebrate the awesome life she had been fortunate enough to live. She felt that she lived a wonderful life and was blessed in many ways".

Yvonne's death has certainly left a large hole in the heroine world, but it will not forget her.
