Remake Heartache

Now I know I usually write about heroines and "female power" and that sort of thing but I just had to express my outrage at Hollywood planning to remake The Crow (1994/TBA) and Jumanji (1995/2016). First they want to dishonour Brandon Lee's memory and now Robin Williams (especially since he's only been gone a year!)

Firstly The Crow was made in 1994 and was Brandon Lee's final film since he was shot and killed on the set due to some idiot in charge of props using bullets that had already been fired instead of buying blank bullets. At least one of these bullets still contained its firing pin and when they shot at Lee on set, it actually fired and killed him. His father, Bruce Lee, also died on set (His poor wife! First losing her husband on set and then her son). My outrage here is based on this and I find it horrible that they want to remake a legendary film. The Crow will always be Brandon Lee's.

I am more horrified that they are already planning to remake Jumanji. Robin Williams was one of the best comedians/actors we have ever had. He has only been gone a year. A year! I find this disgusting. At least Brandon Lee has been gone for over 20 years. A year?!

Jumanji was based on a book, 12 year old Alan finds the board game Jumanji and, whilst playing it with Sarah, becomes trapped inside it for 26 years until 2 other children come across it and release Alan (who is now a full-grown adult, played by Robin Williams).

After tracking down Sarah, the 4 of them attempt finish the game to try and undo the havoc and mayhem that it caused along the way. Once finished, Alan and Sarah returned back to 1969 as children, weigh down the board with bricks and dump it in the river. In 2014, a fully detailed replica of the Jumanji board game was created and sold on an eBay auction for about $60,800.

Now for the female-empowering part! Sarah, played by Bonnie Hunt, and Judy, played by Kirsten Dunst, are as integral to the film as the men. They use all their strength and courage to finish the game after releasing devastating "prizes" such as a lion, an earthquake, bats, monkeys, etc.

I am pleading you Hollywood, make some new goddamn films. Stop remaking everything!
