Heisenberg Standing Tall

ALL HAIL THE KING: Mezco has been on the scene for some time and really broke ground on the scene just as the award-winning Breaking Bad was coming to an epic conclusion in 2013 (after five years) with its original cast of six-inch toxic characters. Many variants, bobbleheads and plushes hence, here standing taller than ever is Heisenberg, at 1:6 scale, or a foot high.

This Heisenberg (aka Walter White in his tribute to quantum physicist Werner Heisenberg) comes with a pair of glasses, sunglasses and his signature flat black hat. The overall look is pretty cool, the piece is some cross between vinyl and rubber and the facial features, especially in profile, truly do have a resemblance to actor Bryan Cranston in this role.

LABORATORY KINGPIN: Included here are images of the figure within the inner packaging because they truly went through the care to use twist ties with a rubbery portion that touches the actual figure in transport to prevent any scratches. Nice touch. And everything came completely secure sans marring or paint issues. Here you can see some details - I am particularly drawn to the way they made the jacket appeal as if it were made of leather. The piece, however, is one solid unit without separate clothing (save for the mantioned accessories).

The expression is almost without care, somewhat expressionless a deer-in-the-headlights gaze into the beyond. I like the facial hair, though the eyebrows seem a bit overdrawn, giving even more attention to the aging and creases in the characters face. He's a rough n' tumble guy. Though when it comes to articulation these figures are made more for show than for too much in the way of posing. Movement is restricted to the head/neck, the arms at the shoulders only, the waist and feet (both very limited). His legs are static and in locked position. His general stance is slightly jutting forward, but it's fitting for the character.

When you look at the smaller version and this one there is a definitive feeling of impact when looking at them side by side. And mind you, the smaller Mezco figures have a lot of detail, especially in the clothing and accessories. They are not just "cute" - far from it. The larger size is also incredibly priced (somewhere around $32) and can be found through Amazon here (only $21!!!) and at various retailers. I had hoped to have the ThreeZero PVC version ($200+ and also 12" scale) to do a side-by-side but there wasn't one readily available for review. But this image will have to suffice:

There are obvious differences, and the latter is supposed to offer a host of accessiories, swappable parts and ultimate articulation. This character deals with some elicit stuff, a gritty life, we like to see that represented in a figure too. I like the overall look here, I just want a slight bit of wear and tear (perhaps in the shoes?). There's a lot of black on black - perhaps this figure could also be a customizer's dream? I really dig the silver zipper strip, it parts some of the dark and brings some additional sense of realness to the flow of the wardrobe. Let's have a look at this figure head-to-toe:
