Presenting the Marvel Universe’s most beloved Southern Belle, the X-Man Rogue.
Rogue originally debuted as a villain who singlehandedly took on the Avengers and almost beat them all until the never-say-die attitude of Carol Danvers resulted not in the temporary absorbstion of Carol’s powers, but her personality as well. Driven near insane by the accident, Rogue retreated. In dire need of help in controlling her powers, Rogue joined the X-Men. While she may not have been originally accepted wholeheartedly into the team for being a former super-villain and a power and identity thief whose touch could obliterate a person’s life, Rogue has since become one of the most beloved core members of the team – even rising to lead the X-Men at one point of time.
This is the costume that Jim Lee gave Rogue back in 1991 when the X-Men comic book was launched and Rogue became a member of Cyclops’ Blue Team alongside Wolverine, Psylocke, Gambit, Beast, and Jubilee. This was after she had forged a very surprising romantic relationship with Magneto (much to the chagrin of all the Gambit/Rogue loveteam fanboys – she would also have a relationship with Magneto’s clone, Joseph). The two are more or less broken up now following the events of the AvX where Magneto chose the more militant mutant lifestyle.
Rogue would come full circle when she became a member of the Avengers alongside Havok, Captain America, Sunfire, Scarlet Witch, Wasp, Quicksilver, Sabertooth, and Wonder Man. During her stint with the Avengers, she ended up accidentally absorbing - literally this time, no physical body was left behind – the ionic energy being that is Wonder Man.
Following the events of the Secret Wars, Rogue will return as a member of the Uncanny Avengers.
PROS
FIRST: Rogue comes with a unique facial sculpt. It’s a definitely beautiful facial sculpt. She may not be as pretty as what we’ve come to expect Rogue to be, but there is definitely something very “Southern” looking about her. She’s just as hot looking as the Marvel Universe Scarlet Witch action figure (Rogue almost became her stepmother – no wonder they don’t like each other).
SECOND: The high articulation. You’d think that high 90’s hair would interfere with her articulation, but it does not get in the way of her looking up, down, left or right. Yes you can remove the jacket, but you’d leave the sleeves on her arms.
ARTICULATION:
Head is mounted on a ball joint on a neck hinge
Upper torso is also on a ball joint allowing it to swivel and tilt.
Ball jointed shoulders with bicep swivel
Single direction elbows, no forearm swivel
360° wrists
Upper torso swivel
No waist swivel
Ball jointed legs with upper leg swivel
Double jointed, single-direction knees
Boot/ankle tilt and swivel
CONS
FIRST: The Marvel Universe Rogue action figure has the same problem the more “waif-like” characters have: their hip ball joints keep popping out.
SECOND. Her jacket hampers her upper arm movement. She has difficulty crossing her arms.
BUYER/COLLECTORS RECOMMENDATION: Personally I would love to see a modern version of Rogue. She hasn’t worn this look since the 90s. But we do love the look. Rogue is a part of a the Marvel Universe “The Uncanny X-Men” four pack that includes Wolverine, Longshot and Baby Cyclops. The four pack retails for around $60 USD and can be purchased from Amazon here.
