Up for unboxing this week is NECA's 8-bit Mohawk figure from the 1990 Nintendo Entertainment System game. I had just played this game the other night, because I was feeling very nostalgic.
Just in case you aren't aware Mohawk is the primary villain that hunts down Gizmo with his sharp claws (Level 2), a gun (Level 4), and with his spider mutation form (level 5) in this game. The figure NECA decided to go with is the Mohawk with his gun.
Appearance & Construction: Box
The box for Mohawk is a dead on reconstruction of the box art for the Gremlins 2 game. Mohawk is featured prominently on the front and back of the box. Opening up the box reveals Mr. Wing in all his 8-bit glory who asks Gizmo what he would like to purchase from his shop. Also we can see the Mohawk figure starring at us from a clam shell window. The figure is housed in a transparent clam shell fastened in place by three black twist ties.
Appearance & Construction: Figure
The very first thing you notice about this figure is the attention to detail and the great craftsmanship put into it. The paint shows great detail and homage to his 8-bit counterpart. There's a very nice mix of bright yellow, grey and black to pump up the awesomeness level on old Mohawk. The articulation on this figure is great, and there are countless options to pose him in. Mohawk's mouth opens and his head turns well also, (He even has a black tongue sculpted in his mouth). His arms have joints at the elbow and shoulders. His legs have joints at the knees and feet, making it very easy for it to stand on it's own.
Accessories: Gun
Mohawk comes with one accessory, a gun. This gun is sculpted and painted perfectly and it fits many different ways in the figure's hands. The minimal amount of accessories that this figure comes with actually benefits it. Just look around your house and use your imagination, and let's get Mohawk a countless amount of funny, cool, and even weird things to hold (not too weird weirdo!).
There are a handful of other Mohawk figures out there, all of which are pretty cool in their own right, specifically NECA's 2010 Cult Classics Wave 1 Mohawk action figure with lab table and spider serum beaker. This version of Mohawk is pretty close to the same build, but with more movie screen like paint and presence. There's only one 8-bit Mohawk figure that rules the World. NECA has a complete hit with this line of figures. All I can say is get this while he is $19.99 (USD)
Canadian Chris all boxed out, eh!!!!
