A game a lot of us have played at some point in our lives. Today I will be talking about Final Fantasy X (which I love so much, I have the logo tattooed).
This is both a perfect and a terrible example of heroines. Yuna, one of the main characters, is on a spiritual pilgrimage to stop Sin, the big bad. Great example of female heroism huh? Well it's a little more complicated than that as she has several guardians to accompany her and protect her on this mission and they are: Tidus the main guy, Lulu, Auron, Kimahri, Wakka and Rikku. 2 female guardians and 4 male. Yuna generally focuses her power on white magic, healing magic although she can deal some damage once you've moved around her sphere grid but as she is at the start, she is a healer.
Lulu, however, is a completely different story. She focuses on black magic and can deal some pretty nasty damage on an opponent. Lulu also has a series of dolls as her physical weapon which help her to cast her magic and can also attack physically (one example of this is a Cactuar). She thinks of Yuna as a younger sister as she grew up with her in their homeplace of Besaid. She also lost her lover at the hands of Sin.
Rikku is an Al Bhed and is Yuna's cousin and final guardian. Although young, she has skills with Claws (a Wolverine-style weapon), Machina and alchemy. Rikku is impressed by Lulu's calm nature and looks up to her. As with Lulu and the rest of the guardians, she is very loyal to Yuna.
At the centre of this pilgrimage we have Yuna herself. Tidus is transported from his home in Zanarkand, after it is attacked by Sin, to the legendary world of Spira. Tidus meets Yuna at the start of her pilgrimage and joins her as a guardian.
Final Fantasy has been a huge spark for collectors' items including many figures. For Final Fantasy X, you can get Yuna and each of her Guardians as figures by Play Arts Kai which are about 8" tall, Kotobukiya which are 1/6 scale, Bandai figures which are about 6" tall, mini Coca-Cola figures in crystal and colour, Play Arts Kai figures and Creatures which are of the Aeons.
