Dissatisfaction Guaranteed: In a world of zombies (and guerillas) comes something refreshing from Jolly 'Ole, it's Dismalhand by DMS! Straight from "a dilapidated shed on a miserable day in England" comes the aftermath Banksy's Dismaland, in artbomb form. Only one way to make one of the baddest events this year even more quirky, and that's emerging artists' interpretations of this moment in time. A moment where pure magic and evil meet.
The artist known simply as DMS is Dan Small who, along with his wife, run a small business called Monsters and Mecha in Cornwall England. He's offering two variants on the severed hand for a great low price. One resembles classic 'Mickey' and the other looks shot up and beet red. Both are small with refined attention to small details. This is a bit of a takeawa souvenir for many who were unable to attend this pop-up exhibition a few months back. And though this work was not officially in the show, it was on site at the time, quietly crashing the party like trees falling in the forest without ears to hear 'TIMBER!'.....
The 'Certificate of Inauthenticity' proves that I paid for something, and in return I got what I can assume resembles the bloodied extremities of one mouse of mythic lore. These 1.5" pieces are handmade in resin and is limited in an un-numbered, non-specified quantity. I'm all for an urban art project with teeth and this one is seething with creativity and cahones. This one shoots right into our top ten art toy releases of the year. Look Mom, no hands!
