Hot on the heels of the news of a cancelled Sequel to the semi-hit Pacific Rim movie comes NECA to keep the Giant Kaiju/Robot battle alive in our minds. The Ultimate Striker Eureka (Action Figure) debuted at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con and is now starting to ship this week.
This isn't the first time round for NECA with the Pacific Rim license. They've released many other figures such as 7" and 18" Jaegers (mechs/robots), 7" and 18" tall Kaiju's (giant monsters).
Each 7" and 18" figures have stunning sculpt and articulation as you've come to expect from NECA. The paint jobs on these figures are really what stands out for me though, as they immerse you in the Pacific Rim realm. Each figure has it's own personality and with that it's own appeal.
One thing that makes the 18" deluxe figures a must is the LED lights features. Creatures and Mechs both have the option of lighting up in various spots throughout their build, be it lights, engines, or eyes and mouth. Don't forget to get batteries though, as they're needed for this feature. My personal favorites from this line has to be the Kaiju's, Robot/Mechs are not far behind though.
The creatures just are so imaginative and bring me back to memories of those horribly dubbed Godzilla movies of yesteryear. How could you not like monsters with names like Leatherback ( and giant gorilla amphibian crossbreed), Knifehead (a large shark like monster mash up). Just like in the movie, these creatures all are highlighted with very unique features such as extra limbs , muscular builds and giant overbearing statures. I can't fully finish this article without at least talking a little about the Jaegers (mechs). Each Jaeger is designed for battle in mind, and battle they will. Weapons include missile launcher, chain sword, plasmacaster, and giant metal fists. The Jaegers include Gypsy Danger, Crimson Typhoon, Coyote Tango, Cherno Alpha (the giant Russian tank like Jaeger).
This brings me to the newly released 7″ scale Ultimate Striker Eureka (pictured here). This one's beautiful from box to bot. The ultimate version of this figure was designed using digital files that were used in the making of the feature film. The Ultimate Jaeger features an all new body and all new articulation. It comes nicely displayed in an open window front box as if it was being readied for battle. Inside the box we have a super articulated, beast of a jaeger, no detail is sparred in this design. This Jaeger come with an interchangeable chest plate that can be removed and replaced with a launched missile piece, just to show he's thick in the battle. There's a nuclear payload attached to the back of Striker Eureka (in-case all else fails). One other thing This mech represents Australia in the film and in the action figure rendition As the Australian flag is featured on the front of the box.
As bummed as I am there won't be a second helping of giant monster/mech ass kicking, I'm glad NECA is keeping this line going. Who knows maybe someday they may return to the rim for a final battle, until then we have some Godzilla and Gamera films to look forward to.
Later EH!!!! Oh and please join us on Facebook for more, like a contest (soon)!
