The Past
Ness the baseball enthusiast and young man from Onett is on a journey to destroy the evil Giygas. There is much peril in crossing from town to town in the wilderness of Eagleland. Ness’s backpack is packed to the point of seem bursting with an array of yo-yos, cash, snacks, and of course crack onomonopeia creating wooden bats for whacking hippy, cultist and police officer fiends ermm.. I mean baseball. Ness may be young but he is courageous. Will he destroy Giygas thwart his foe Pokey and return Eagleland back to normal?
The Future
Lucas the young blonde telepath from the village of Tazmily is on a quest to pull certain special needles out of the ground to stop the world from ending. The misguided somewhat evil Pokey or as he goes by now Porky is back and has created a dystopian future in his own image. With his trusty snake rope at his side can Lucas collect all of the stick like needles he needs to make the future brighter?
The Present
When one talks about “Earthbound” you must also talk about the not yet U.S. released Gameboy Advance game “Mother 3”. The games have achieved something even higher than cult status. I have even spoken to fans on separate occasions where they gleamed with excitement over how surreal it is to hold official licensed merchandise from the franchise created by Nintendo. I am of course talking about the Ness and Lucas amiibo. The Earthbound fans in English speaking countries are so neglected that even something as small as an overdue virtual console title is something to celebrate with vigor. These figures belong together because when I glance at them on my mantle I see a gleam of hope that “Mother 3” will soon be localized and that we can the U.S. fans can finally give Nintendo the money they deserve for making it.
