Brick Addiction: Call of Duty (When Wholesome Bricks Become Badass)

Brightly-colored building bricks which used to attract wholesome play have entered a new dimension when Megabloks franchised Call of Duty, a video game that primarily teaches one to kill or be killed. Imagine grim-looking war characters and settings that you can not only play, but build as well. Talk about an experience that couldn’t be any more immersive.

And did I say it’s all about war? The Call of Duty (COD) sets are all about fighting. It spans the past, present, and future themes. Locations vary from the conventional ground, naval, and aerial battles, up to every imaginable battle grounds such as jungles, deserts, mountain ranges, the arctic, nuclear-devastated towns, under the sea, and even the moon and outer space! Imagine astronauts shooting each other while suspended in space. Not only that, they even have zombies to fight the soldiers in all those locations. What an awesome chaos!

The quality of craftsmanship is superlative. The sets, figures, and accessories are highly detailed. COD minifigures are like small articulated G.I.Joe action figures shrunk into Lego minifigure size. They’re also highly articulated, with removable accessories, and best of all, can also cling and stick on surfaces like the traditional Lego minifigure. Now that’s combining the enjoyment you get when playing G.I. Joe toys and Lego! What could be better?

The bricks’ colors are also realistic. Many are painted like scale models, complete with military color pattern. The palette is grim, in character with its war themes. In fact, you wouldn’t notice that it’s a brick toy unless you look closer and see the almost-not-there studs. These toys would look good even if they get dirty. Nay, they look best when they’re dirty!

Methinks MegabloksCall of Duty sets are so badass I wouldn’t recommend it to your typical kiddo who likes to play bricks. In fact, these COD sets are perfect for adults. Great for pictorial, great for diorama, great for anything entertaining. If you’re a war fan who likes to imagine and to create, it’s your duty to get this baby at all costs.
