The Scream Comes Alive In Three Dimensions

Any art lover who has seen Norwegian artist Edvard Munch's ubiquitously popular and enduring The Scream at the Museum of Modern Art or elsewhere (there are four known versions) knows it's one of those works of art that has transcended into popular culture. The work came decades before contemporary art even knew what to term itself. Munch was a true pioneer among his peers. The emotive immediacy of its central character, in all its simplicity has touched so many generations since its original making in 1893. Its pure expressionism in this multimillion dollar work of art is bold and stark - but in 2016 Japanese maker Figma has re-invented the piece as a 5.5" articulated toy figure for contemporary audiences. In fact they are starting a new series, the Table Museum, which will delight all sorts of collectors. Excited to see what other artwork they have in mind (please drop a Duchamp in the mix!) We think it's fresh and innovative and these will be available for $55 through Good Smile Shop online (pre-orders will run through 12/1). This figure would look hysterically apropos next to my Van Gogh action figure, just saying..... ;)

A WHOLE NEW SCREAM: It's funny to contemplate all the various poses you an put this classic abstract character into. It brings high art to the people, and has a little bit of fun, a bit cheeky. From the images the figure looks to be painted with a style reverent to the original work, with paint strokes looking as though the have popped right off the canvas. It appears textural and a bit as if it is encaustic or pastel.

From Figma: "The Table Museum' is a series of figma figures based on famous works of art that almost anyone would recognize! The seventh product to join the series opens up the art exhibits with Edvard Munch's classic artwork - 'The Scream'. This work of art based on the theme of angst was a masterpiece that still captures the attention of art fans to this day.As the figure is based on a painting, the figure also comes with a special frame part to display behind him to fully recreate the original work! The figure will seem to be jumping out from the frame for a lovely display for both art and figure fans to enjoy. Enjoy one of the first ever figures based on a work of art!"

The figure will come with a range of hands (as seen in the images) and is crafted from both ABS and PVC. The figure is wonderfully sinewy and expressive in and of itself. We hope to get one to review for you. Art comes to life.
