The Merc With A Muzzle

HEADS WILL ROLL! This comedic character re-invention by artist Steven Cartoccio otherwise known as Concrete Jungle Studio has us completely off-guard, and we love it! We took an in-depth look at the nine-inch tall resin figure that runs in a sweet limited edition of only 100 (that's right folks). If you didn't already catch our earlier preview it includes some sketches and other tales. Cartoccio also created a very limited edition of only ten of this signature figure in a grey variant (based on X-Force Deadpool) as an NYCC Exclusive and it sold out! The figure and his compadres will be featured at Booth #905 at this weekend's Designer Con! He's quite stunning from many perspectives, so I had to ask the artist what influenced him:

MARVEL AWAY: "All of these Marvel animal mash ups are based on characters from my animated series Concrete Jungle. Frank the bulldog is voiced by the great John DiMaggio of Futurama and Adventure Time. The next two sculptures in the series are Stanley (dressed as Wolverine) and Markneto." We learned that he will actually have some of these on hand at DesignerCon this weekend in Pasadena! He went on to say: "I will be selling Stanleys at Dcon and showing the painted prototype of Markneto for the first time."

PUT EM UP, PUT EM UP: Since this figure is a certified unique collectible, I was curious to ask Cartoccio about his own collecting habits, and he shared: "As far as collecting I was a big fan of Transformers, comic action figures (Spider-man and X-Men mostly) and Star Wars, but the figures that made the greatest impression in me were Todd McFarlane's. His sculpts had a level of detail I had never seen before in toys." Nice to hear this kinda nod to the elder McFarlane who hasn't stopped producing quality figures in all these years!

His Breath May Be Worse Than His Bark! Lastly we talked about media as I was curious about his place in the larger continuum of it all and he was very frank saying "I have a bunch of favorite movies, but television has been more of an inspiration to me. That's where I eventually want to take the web series. I've been heavily influenced by the work of Adam Reed (Frisky Dingo, Archer) Loren Bouchard (Lucy, daughter of the Devil, Bob's Burgers) and Trey Parker and Matt Stone." Check out his hysterical Sizzle Reel for the series:
