Ten Years Later: Winson Ma x Apexplorers

NO DAMNED DIRTY APE HERE! Here at Go Figure News we are completely, admittedly infatuated with all things designer art toy and action figure related, so when the two combine into one we cannot contain the energy within! Hong Kong based artist and toymaker Winson Ma is one of those who has stood the test of time through his hominoid-like creatures (oh, that big word just means ape)!

Through his Apextaobao and Apexplorer figures we've seen a near re-invention of the limited edition action figure blossom into an art form. Established in 2005 Winson Classic Creation has developed a whole range of exciting products with a flair for the most eccentric quality in craftsmanship. We want to let you know what's available and wish them a very successful and happy ten years! Expect a review in these pages when he arrives.

PARTY LIKE IT's 2106! We had a chance to connect with the man behind the scenes who shared lots of new information about these amazing new pieces in the works to celebrate this past decade in style. There will be two new 1:4 Scale Space Adam figures offered, a color (orange suit) version for $470 (approx) and a very limited edition variant (silver suit). Here's a look at what's in store and ready for pre-order now - extended through December 31st!

GREAT APE, GREAT APE: This is the Winson Classic Creation 10th Anniversary Adam, the first figure designed by Winson Ma in 2004. In the same year, it got the gold prize in an well-known action figure competition. The series “Apexplorers” was born in 2006 and its story is based on environmental protection elements and scientific concepts. The figures of “Apexplorers” were actually brought to the polar region for promotional photo shooting three times - we are not kidding! In 2008, Adam’s ratio 1:6 action figures were manufactured and sold out in a very short period of time. They consider Adam as the most influential character in the story.

In 2016 Winson Classic Creation is 10 years old and they are now collaborating with mainland figure brand Coomodel who have developed various action figure body types and gorgeous handmade pieces - you may remember their unbelievable The Werewolf. Making this new work didn't go without its big challenges, turning the 1:6 figure into 1:4. Winson expressed to me: "We want to keep the originality, as well as get some fresh ideas to the figures. That’s why we apply a double-head technique for our design. One of the heads is the original Art Form design; the other one shows specifically the miniature texture of the chimpanzee."

IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS: We are in love with the helmet that opens, and has an LED light built-in! For the accessories, they designed not one, but three sets of gloves: the original palms, astronaut gloves, and palms with a very minute texture effect. There separate Helmet is just the beginning. Check out the backpack and the electronic gun will be included as accessories too.

Adam’s equipment has obviously been extremely well prepared and handled. The LED lighting has also been installed in other various areas of the set so it will surely help to create the atmosphere of the galaxy. If only my Planet of the Apes figures could even have half of these incredible features! Again, there are two versions of the 1:4 Adam figure. The collection version is with orange costume. The limited version has a white and silver costume and is limited to 200 pieces.

GO APE CRAZY! We are all about this marvelous figure, and cannot wait until it is fully realized and brought to market, which should be early next year! Don't miss out, you could be one of the very person on your block (or country even!) to grab one of these early and often! Here are the full details.
