This is the third Kickstarter we have taken a second look at this season, and it looks pretty impressive from here. So, from the outset UMakeIt!™ Character Creator gets two enthusiastic thumbs up from GOFN. Though they have a high goal of $46K, they do have 49 days left in their campaign and more versatility of possibilities than most anything out there action figure-wise. Michigan-based Jake Minor, the man behind the creation, is offering an Early Bird special for $20 that gets you the base figure. Minor has worked with some of my favorites like Dr. Seuss, Lucasfilm and Disney and his illustrative work has been used by Marvel, The Walking Dead and other household names. So, you can bet this will end up a totally classy end result.
BUILD IT / PAINT IT: Keep in mind that this will definitely appeal to kids. I mean, if I had this back in the late 70's I would have been glued to my desk building fantasy characters ad nauseam, indeed. That said, this is a dream deal made in heaven for the ultimate adult customizers. The demo of a panoply of markers shows the versatility of the product. I can just imagine auto paint, crazy 3D printed additions, homemade decals, potentially adding lace front mini wigs. I mean, go to town boys n' girls! There are plenty o' incentives per usual but this one puts the kick in Kickstarter.
The campaign easily goes over the steps of piecing this new design together from blank prototype looking DIY figure to a finished range of wild characters that is only limited by your own creativity.
