Call For Entries: Build-A-Bot

GO-BOT WANTS U! About a year ago I was feeling a little bit naked. Oh not me personally, but Go Figure News that is. Why you ask? Well, you see, everything these days seems to have the flavor of "brand" and while we continue to venture upstream, we thought it might be a fun idea to have a mascot. It started with a few conversations about developing a toy that would represent our zine. Once I started discussions with designer Jake Kapusta we landed on the 'GO-Bot'. Jake did a fantastic job realizing my idea, improving upon it, and brought him to life. Over this last year he has served us well in his limited capacity, however, it's time for him to take his next steps.

That's where you, the creatives out there, take it from here. I promised a big box of toys after reaching 5000 strong on our Facebook page. Now that we've surpassed that by almost 200 incredible friends, I thought it made sense to come up with a creative way to thank you. So this is our first Call for Entries ever! There is no entry fee, you do not have to ship you're creative ideas anywhere (unless you want to), and hopefully this will be a lot of fun for everyone. This is all done strictly by email. There are no restrictions in terms of age (9-99), educational credentials, or really anything. We just ask for your creative input, and passionate response. We welcome everyone, even teams.

BUILD-A-BOT: Below you can see our simple design for GO-Bot. What we are looking for are new interpretations of this character. Use it creatively. He can be put into a setting, a montage, made into a logo, shown from other angles, reinterpreted in various colors, in any medium whatsoever. Think digital, photograph, resin, jewelry, video, action figure, cartoon, diorama, cosplay, maquette, watercolor, animation, bronze (lol), you get it! If you create artful bootleg toys and you want this guy to come alive as a mashup, so be it, this is fair game. If you've only ever drawn a stick figure and are somehow able to adapt GO-Bot into your drawing style, we welcome your entry.

Now through March 31, please send any and all of your ideas, and you can submit up to three (3) versions/images for consideration, right here.

NITTY GRITTY: Images should be 72DPI and measure somewhere between 1500-2000 pixels wide. We welcome any questions you might have as well, but really this is your personal reinterpretation of our mascot, and we same run with it! The top entries will be selected by the Go Team and will be published right here in these pages. We will then ask all of our readers to select their favorite from the top five entries. The winner will be announced on or about April 14th to receive a large toy box filled to the brim with incredible geeky goodies, toys n' stuff. Have fun with it!

PLEASE SHARE.
