Nothing From Nothing Leaves Nothing

The Reasons Your Opinion Matters - The Action Figure from Forces of Dorkness is a bit of a conceptual bootleg of Extratruckestrial (aka Doc Gonzo) and Ren One's so-called epic "The Nothing" figure. And this time around I take this figure personally. A bit of a void, it helps me recall one of my favorite books of all time, The Quotable Nothing Book by Peter John Dorman. In fact, that book was partial inspiration for my very own series, Shooting Blanks/No Sign (2017), a series of photographs I shot from 2008-2013. But this time 'round the concept (or anti-concept) is more "transparent". Literally.

#HASHTAG - Ya see there is beauty in what we don't see, that which many fear. Has this gone way too far, or has it yet left the gate. It's likely the crux of contemplation becomes it's own tension. Is this "figure" a shameful attempt at your coin, or does it accurately capture the invisible-ness of all who site behind a monitor tapping away, daily, commenting frivoulously with the vitriol of half truths and unsubstantiated rhetoric? On the other hand (or cheek) I did get a chuckle when I read that "Each figure has unlimited points of articulation, an infinite number of accessories, and comes in any color you can think of." Lol. As Tatianna said on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars II - "Choices!".....

This made me take pause to even consider if this could actually even be referred to as a true "bootleg". Of what?- one might ask. Housed in a resealable clamshell package with plain jane, generic, "ACME"-style custom card art and some Forces of Dorkness stickers this'll run ya $9.95 ($3.95 for US shipping), and make others who don't buy into the acquired taste of it all, run for the hills. We can appreciate the simplicity here, the black + white and read all over aspect that takes even the Dadaist audacity of, say, Death By Toys' The Fog action figure (2016) one step closer to the subliminal world of elusive, thin air.

HIDE + SEEK: Similar, but not the same. Remember this by Applehead Factory?

It's all been said and done.
