No joke! How awesome to wake up this morning to the news about the latest from RYCA, and his nod to the rave band The Prodigy. It came out back in 1995 and it was the soundtrack that introduced me to the band, and it was Hackers. The track was the riveting Voodoo People. Fast forward to the recent past few years, and I've really thought about the lack of toys that celebrate musicians, especially those who are more contemporary than say Elvis, Kiss, the Beatles etc. I mean all of them have been immortalized in plastic, vinyl, wood, pasta shells, bottle caps… you get the picture. Though how many toys have you seen that depict say Pizzicato 5, Stereolab, or even the omni-present Moby? I was recently postulating why someone wouldn't take the opportunity to make a figure of Yma Sumac or Nina Hagen. These people were extremely visual, and multitalented.
RAVE-ON: It's so cool to see the making of. It's great that Ryan Callanan grabbed the bull by the horns and put this "official bootleg" out into the mainstream. RYCA brought us the Art Troopers (Warhol and Basquiat), two of my favorites in recent years, as well as Acid Empire and so many originals. He's made an edition of 250, which is far larger than most of his previous projects that usually are under 25. These are numbered and signed by the artist as well as the band, so it's fantastic to see that these are on preorder via the bands official site right here. As an additional bonus incentive we've heard that only 10 that will be sent out, randomly, will be gilded in 23.5 karat gold leaf! Otherwise the remaining 240 are all hand sculpted in chrome finish. This is a fantastic announcement, we are over the moon Alice. $189.99
