Pop! Sans Formal Announcement

by TJ Norris When new figures are expected from Funko they are generally pre-announced and/or there is some kind of lead-in. However, two figures have recently started to appear in and around without any pomp and circumstance. The first being DC Comics Super Heroes Batman (Unmasked) #51 Funko Pop! This has been seen in Australia and now one was found at a local Target in Alabama (Photos: Derek John Jordan: @derkdork/Instagram). Several have felt as though this was a custom, some said it was a gray market fake, yet others thought it was a Superman head atop a Batman body. If any of those be the case, this is quite convincing. Here are a few more images:

Also having emerged out of Singapore and the online shop Simply Toys is the previously sought after Funko Pop! Loki (02) from Thor/The Mighty Avenger. This figure like other retired figures in recent months, have emerged in markets outside the US in some quantity. This is the version that we are to expect from this rather new vendor:

Loki is hugely popular, so you could imagine this comes as a big relief to those who don't have him in their collection - but as a bit controversial otherwise. You can buy the new Gold Helmeted Marvel 36 Loki through Toy Wars, then Hot Topic is soon releasing the B/W Variant of Marvel 36 Loki as an exclusive, and finally the Marvel 36 Frost Giant Loki and the GITD Variant through Fugitive Toys (right now it is a NYCC Exclusive). One of our regular readers Nick Lucier says: "This piece was originally available back when the first Thor movie was released, this was also before Funko was popular. Recently this piece has been going on auction sites for in excess of a hundred dollars, but now because of simplytoys.com you can preorder it for just $17 dollars, plus shipping. This has some fellow collectors outraged, due to this particular Loki being some peoples' most prized piece. For some this action deems this a regular common pop now. With Funko bringing back retired Loki 02 who knows what other figures Funko will bring back from retirement?"

We hear him, and others echoed online and elsewhere. It does bring up the question of "collectibility" and "value". We want to turn to you and find out what you think. So, please let us know on our Facebook page where we post this piece. In the meantime, here's a quick gallery of Loki through the various series'.
