Remjie Malham To Debut 'Doro' A New Sofubi

Doro is a demon, a cute lil' demon. He's been around in resin form before as well as acting as a 'mascot' of sorts as the artist's logo. Now Norwegian artist Remjie Malham is debuting this lil guy as her very first sofubi figure who will stand 7" in height! Right now she is planning a custom show at Wrong Gallery (dates TBA) and she tells us that "i want to make a custom show - inviting artists from around the world to join and paint a Doro for the show!"

The figure can hold his staff accessory (below) in his right hand and will be made available in four blank colorways (cyan as shown, milk white, green, orange) for $80 (add $35 for shipping). Pre-orders are available now and anticipated shipping will take place in July. Remjie took a bit of time out from production to talk with us about the coming of Doro:

Q: Is this your very first attempt at a sofubi figure? Remjie: Yes, I am very excited about it! It took me quite some time and was quite a challenge. But it was so worth all the time put into it! Q: The figure resembles a sacred cat of sorts. What was the inspiration?

Remjie: The main inspiration for Doro was oriental monster art (China, Thailand, India, Japan). So Doro carries traits of different styles from these countries. I have sculpted Doro designs many times and it have evolved a lot throughout the years! But the main features are a toothy grin, big ears, stocky build and five eyes.

Some photos of Doro dolls and resin toys:

Q: Will the final be in hues of purple or are you planning one of your wildly psychedelic colorings? Remjie: Purple, pink, magenta, teal! Can’t wait to paint some of those guys in with my favourite gradients! In fact some of my customers have been requesting a fully painted Doro as a pre-order! Too bad we have to wait till July -- ahhhh. Q: Where will this debut?

Remjie: We’re planning to just sell toys online as soon as they are finished. You most likely will be able to buy blanks through REMJIE.COM once they are in stock. Also I hope to have a custom show at Wrong Gallery in Taipei later on. Its so exciting to think that other amazing artists will be customizing my own toy design!
